Autumn Day 5 : Purchase 1 Day JR Pass
By admin | April 7, 2009
We did not have to check out in the morning but only drop the room key in the receptionist message box. That was how the officer requested us t do, because he would not be in the office until 8.00am. We were leaving the hotel at 7am, so definitely not able to meet him already.
Although, we did not bring the huge luggage to Kyoto, but we left Kyoto with an expandable luggage that is quite huge also. All because of the shopping spree, we have to be caring so many luggages now. We walked out from the hotel and stop a taxi at roadside. I do not think we could carry heavy luggage to take bus. Therefore, better take a taxi to Kyoto station. It was very easy to stop a taxi at roadside. We paid about 890Yen taxi fares and get off at Kyoto Station.
We were planning to visit Himeji and Kobe today. So, I have to purchase JR 1 day pass, so that could save some on the transportation fees. The JR fees from Kyoto to Osaka and Osaka to Himeji already over 2,000Yen. Purchase JR 1 day pass with 2,000 Yen should be the best deal to visit Himeji and Kobe.
Travelers are allowed to purchase 1 type of JR pass in Japan. You could select 1, 2, 3 & 4 days JR pass or 7 days Japan Rail Pass (valid in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto). Refer more detail at http://www.westjr.co.jp/english/travel/jrp/index.html. After done some calculation, we only bought the 1 day west pass. That suited us the most.
I have to show our passport in the JR counter when purchase 1 day JR pass and also fill up a purchase form. The pass is valid on 1 day basic and it is not count at 24 hours basic. We started to use the pass on 7.30am, 03.12.2008 and the pass was valid until 11.59pm, 03.12.2008 only.
